News and Announcements
Dear Saanich Lacrosse families,
The Vancouver Island Lacrosse Commission is hosting the 2012 Female Lacrosse Nationals from July 29 – August 2 at Bear Mountain Arena. This is a joint effort with all associations on the Island helping to contribute. The tournament is for Bantam and Midget aged teams representing BC, Alberta, Ontario and Nova Scotia.
With the games quickly approaching, the host committee is looking for volunteers from all associations to assist with various volunteer activities. Shifts include the raffle table, 50/50 sales, hospitality room, time keeping, score keeping, clothing sales, and opening/closing ceremonies. Most shifts are during the day between 8:00am and 5:00pm and are 1.5 to 2 hours in length. There will be a volunteer raffle with a prize value of about $150. For each shift a volunteer does, their name is entered into the raffle for a chance to win the fabulous prize.
If you are able to assist this great lacrosse event with a couple hours of your time, please consider helping out. Many volunteers are needed to ensure everything goes smoothly for an event like this.
If you are interested, please contact Cheryl Whyley at firstname.lastname@example.org or 250 926-0101 to coordinate your availability with the shifts needing help.
Thank you for your consideration towards helping ensure the 2012 Female Lacrosse Nationals is a great success.
The Star Cinema in Sidney will be showing the lacrosse film “Crooked Arrows” from July 6-12. It will be playing nightly at 7:00pm with two additional showings on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00pm. Might make for a fun night out as lacrosse movies are pretty rare and this would help support a small local theatre that was willing to bring the movie in at the request of a local lacrosse player. For more information, please see www.starcinema.ca.
Novice Intermediate Tigers won gold at the Bellie Bowl in New Westminster over the weekend. The boys played hard and represented Saanich well. Congratulations to everyone!
The Saanich Jr"B" Tigers are rolling now, after an undisciplined start which saw the team rack up over 100 minute’s in penalty’s in a ragged 0-2 start. The team has embrassed a more team first accountabillity, which has produced a 7-0-1 record in the last 8 games propelling the Tigers into a battle for 1st place with arch rival Westshore Bears in the competitive Pacific North West Junior B Lacrosse League. Stingy goaltending, persistant defense, and a focused league leading offence, who have out scored opponents 98-56 so far this season are some of the reason’s for the teams dramatic turn around.
Ethan Garland a Saanich product and 2nd year Junior has established himself as the leagues most prolific scorer racking up 25 goals and 26 assist’s for a league leading 51 points in 10 games.
Wednesday nights 11-6 win over the Nanaimo Timbermen was the result of alot of hard work, a newly embraced team discipline and the team coming together in all aspects of their game.
The Jr Tigers would like to invite all other Saanich Tiger players from all division’s to come out to there next home game, Saturday June 9th 2:00 at Pearkes Arena vs the Penisula Warriors, all Tigers in their jersey will get a ticket when they come in the arena that will give them a chance to win a stick custom strung and autographed by scoring star Ethan Garland.
