News and Announcements

THE CLA MEMO has been posted on the BCLA Website linked here:

The National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) has confirmed that, after voiding the certification of the Cascade R model helmet on November 24, 2014, Cascade has developed a solution and re-certification process for the helmet that has been approved by NOCSAE. The modified Cascade R helmet models will now be designated as the Cascade R-M.

According to the official release from Cascade, “The solution will involve a simple modification to Cascade R helmets currently in the marketplace. Cascade will make the modification to existing helmets at its Liverpool, N.Y. facility beginning December 16, 2014. The modification will be free of charge for consumers and retailers, including shipping.”

Further, NOCSAE has confirmed that, “The Cascade R helmet will remain decertified unless and until it has been returned to Cascade and properly modified. NOCSAE has required that the modified Cascade R-M have a specialized tamperproof label with the manufacturers certification statement and NOCSAE lacrosse logo, as well as a unique serial number that will be indexed to the serial number of the modified helmet so that all modified model R-M’s can be tracked.”

For more information and to view the official release, please visit the NOCSAE website –

For information about the Cascade Model R helmet issue, please visit the Cascade website –

For instructions on how to return your Cascade R helmet for certified modification, please go to –

Any Cascade R helmet that has not received the appropriate modifications will remain decertified by NOCSAE and therefore not be permitted per CLA policy

Warrior Regulator and Cascade Model R lacrosse helmets no longer compliant with CLA policy.

The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) would like to confirm that, because The National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) recently voided the certification of two previously certified helmet models, the Warrior Regulator and Cascade Model R lacrosse helmets are no longer compliant with the following CLA policy:

12.4.2 For Box and Men’s Field Lacrosse, all players are required to wear a helmet which must meet either of the following standards: A National Organizing Committee for Safety in Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) approved helmet and facial protector, approved as a complete unit, for lacrosse.

Therefore, these models are no longer permitted for use during men’s field or box lacrosse and players using these models must take appropriate measures to ensure they are following CLA rules and policies.

According to the official release, “NOCSAE has been advised that Warrior and Cascade are working to address this issue, and it is anticipated that each will develop a procedure to assist players and teams who use these models.” Please refer to the following websites for further details:

Female Box Lacrosse

Posted by Saanich Lacrosse at Oct 3, 2014 10:34AM PDT

Wanted to let everyone know the rest of the dates for the FREE Female Box Lacrosse session that will be held in 2014 at Pearkes Fieldhouse. Once we get into the new year we will open registration for the Spring 2015 season and regular team level practices can begin.

The dates we have booked are:
Friday, Oct 10
Sunday, Oct 26
Wednesday, Nov 12 (7-9 only)
Sunday, Nov 23
Saturday, Dec 13

We have intentionally moved the dates around a little as we know that some girls have other commitments now so they can’t attend certain days.

These bookings are for 6-9, so we will be breaking into two groups… For girls that will be PeeWee and younger (born in or since 2004) the time will be 6-7:30pm. For the older girls (born before 2004) the time will be 7:30-9pm. For parents that have girls in both age groups you can have them both attend either session or if you have a daughter that can’t make the session they would normally be in they can also attend the other session…..we are just using this as a way to easily divide the group and ensure there is equipment and room for all the girls.

We are also going to send out notices via the schools (now that they are back), so we are hoping for some brand new players at the next session….so it isn’t too late to bring along a friend if there is someone that is interested. We do need a form completed so if you are bringing a friend then I can provide a copy of the form in advance for the parent to sign.

Our goal is going to be to have a scrimmage session on the Wednesday, November 12th which is only a 7-9 session……but need to figure that out as we know many of the girls may not have gear.

We are very excited about the prospects for the Vancouver Island Female League in 2015 and would ask that you help spread the word as we want to make sure we have lots of girls involved as we will find a place for all that want to play.

As always if you have any questions/concerns, just ask and I’ll try to find the information for you…

FEMALE Box Lacrosse Notice FREE session

Posted by Saanich Lacrosse at Sep 13, 2014 3:04PM PDT

For all those girls (5-16) out there that would like to try out lacrosse, but don’t want to play with the boys…. come out to these FREE introductory sessions. The Female Box Lacrosse is a low contact sport (place and push not full contact), but it is still the same fun fast paced competitive game.

Nanaimo and the lower mainland already have a number of teams playing league, tournaments and Provincials…. and the goal is to get Victoria teams going for the 2015 season. These FREE introductory sessions are to let the girls try out the sport (equipment will be supplied) and spread the word about this new opportunity for the girls.

The first of the sessions will be held on Wednesday, September 17th 6-8 at Pearkes Fieldhouse (Tillicum). There is no cost and no equipment is required….the Girls just need to wear runners and bring a water bottle. A signed registration form will be required for each player which can be e-mailed to parents ahead of time if needed.

So spread the word and let’s get more girls learning about and playing this wonderful sport!
