Female Box Lacrosse Drop-in Sessions

Very excited to get things going for the upcoming Female Box Lacrosse Season. This will be the third season for our Victoria wide Female teams and we are expanding to add Junior (Born 1996-2000) and hopefully a girls only Tyke (2009-2010) team that will play in the boys league.

At this time we have some drop-in sessions planned so that new players can learn the basics and returning players can get ready to go back to the box. The idea behind these sessions is to offer a few options so that hopefully everyone can make it to a session. If you need to arrive a few minute late or want to leave early for the younger ones that is okay too.

Based on registrations to-date our numbers look good for the upcoming season, but we are always happy to have more girls come out and see if lacrosse is the right sport for them… so please feel free to invite a friend to come along to any of these sessions. For any players that aren’t registered yet we will need to have a waiver signed by their parent (which we will have on hand or I can e-mail you one in advance if the parent won’t be attending). We will also have extra sticks if needed.

SAANICH LACROSSE TRYOUT & ICEBREAKER SCHEDULE 2017

Please note change to process for 2017

Due to registration numbers this year we will not be doing full evaluations for all players in the novice, peewee, bantam and midget divisions. For the 2017 season Saanich Lacrosse will be doing strictly ‘A’ team coaches tryouts. There will be an ‘A’ and ‘B’ team in each division. If your child is interested in trying out for the ‘A’ team in their division they must attend one session but are encouraged to attend all sessions for their age group. Everyone who wants to tryout for the ‘A’ teams is encouraged to attend. If they do not attend any of the tryouts they will automatically be placed on the ‘B’ team for their division. The head coach from each division will be using these sessions to determine their ‘A’ team along with independent evaluators. If your player does not wish to play ‘A’ lacrosse please do not attend the tryout sessions, if your child attends the tryout they are committing to playing ‘A’ lacrosse if selected.

Your player will be advised of their placement by email by March 20/17.

If you have any questions or concerns in regards to this process please contact:

Hi Saanich Lacrosse Families,

This memo is intended for players in novice, peewee, bantam and midget.

Saanich Lacrosse will be announcing the ‘A’ team tryout schedule soon. If you wish to be considered for the ‘A’ team you are highly encouraged to attend all of the tryout sessions for your division. Please keep in mind that if you are selected to an ‘A’ team, the commitment will be:

- You will be practicing a minimum of 2 times per week approx. 2hrs (depending upon division).
- You should be anticipating going to 2-3 out of town tournaments and provincials.
- Other sports are encouraged but it is expected that if you are selected to an ‘A’ team that there is communication with your coach around schedules and that lacrosse is the primary focus.

Saanich Lacrosse is also pleased to announce the following appointments to the Head Coach positions in the following divisions:

- Midget A – Warren Blackwell, Rob Desormeaux, and Greg Batters
- Bantam A – Ken Passfield
- PeeWee A – Fred Jenner
- Novice A – Rob Shahi

Assistant coaches where necessary will be appointed at a later date.

Coaching assignments for all other teams will be announced once registration numbers and evaluations are finalized. Thank you to all who applied.

Hope everyone is looking forward to a great 2017 season!

Lesley Conway, President
Saanich Lacrosse Association
